Top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)
commander Altaf Lalli was taken out by security forces during an Encounter on
April 25, 2025, in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, marking an
important milestone in India's counterterrorism efforts. This operation is a
key milestone in the ongoing crackdown since the deadly Pahalgam terror 26 were
killed in the incident lives just a week ago.

An Indian Army and Jammu
and Kashmir Police joint operation was conducted in response to reliable
intelligence inputs about terrorists in Kolnar Ajas, Bandipora. Altaf Lalli was
killed during a ferocious firefight that ensued after contact was established,
one of the senior commanders of the LeT. Two police personnel were injured

Altaf Lalli: A Profile
Altaf Lalli, who planned
several attacks there, was a crucial person in the LeT group. He died is seen
considered a major blow to the terrorist organization's ability to operate in
Jammu and Kashmir.
Link to the Pahalgam
Attack
The shootout follows the
April 22 terror attack at Pahalgam, in which 26 people, including one Nepali
national, were killed. The Bandipora operation is a result of security
government officials' increased efforts to capture the attackers after the
attack.
Ongoing Operations and
Security Measures
Security forces have been
conducting raids and demolitions against persons linked to the Pahalgam attack
in addition to the Bandipora operation. Crucially, Adil Hussain Thoker, who was
charged with aiding Pakistani militants in planning the attack, had his house
destroyed with improvised explosive devices. The accused person Asif Sheikh's
Tral home was demolished by Law-Authorities. There has already been a
proclamation by officials of ₹20 lakh to anyone providing information that
leads to the arrest of Thoker and two Pakistani citizens, Ali Bhai and Hashim
Musa, who were suspected to have been involved in the attack. Strategic
Implications
The success of Altaf
Lalli's deconstruction shows the way India's counterterrorism and intelligence
operations work. It clearly indicates terrorist groups about the country's
commitment to cope with terrorism & safeguard its citizens.
